Frequently asked questions

check_box

What exactly am I buying?

A 500GB console that arrives preloaded with over 100,000 games across more than 70 classic systems, already sorted and ready to play. It is not a subscription and not a download — the games are physically on the device when it reaches you.

How does it actually work?

PlayHer is not a program you install. It is a complete games system that lives on the console itself. You shut your computer down, plug PlayHer in, and start the computer up from PlayHer instead of from Windows. Your computer lends its screen and keyboard while you play, and nothing is written to your hard drive. When you are finished you shut down, unplug it, and your computer starts up exactly as it always did.

check_box

Do I have to set anything up?

No emulators to install, no cores to pick, no buttons to map — all of that is done. There are two settings on your own computer worth checking the first time: turn off Windows Fast Startup and turn off Secure Boot. Both take a couple of minutes and the printed guide in the box walks you through each one with screenshots of where to look.

check_box

How do I start it? Which key do I press?

Shut down fully, plug PlayHer in, switch the computer on and tap your boot menu key straight away — F12 on most PCs (Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba), F9 on HP, Esc or F8 on ASUS, F11 on MSI. Then pick the USB entry from the short list that appears. If Windows loads instead, you were a moment late — shut down and tap sooner.

check_box

What computers does it work with?

Any Windows PC or laptop, and Intel-based Macs. Macs with Apple's own M1, M2, M3 or M4 chips cannot start from a device like this — if your Mac is from 2021 onwards, please check before ordering.

check_box

Can I play it on my TV?

Yes. Connect your laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable before switching it on, then start up as normal. Picture and sound both go to the TV.

check_box

Can I use a controller?

Yes, and it is much nicer than a keyboard. Plug the controller or its USB receiver in before you switch the computer on. The first time, PlayHer asks you to press each button so it learns your layout — once, then it remembers. Our 2.4G wireless controller is built for this and needs no setup beyond plugging in the receiver: add one for $17.99.

check_box

How do I get around the menus?

Left and right picks a console, up and down scrolls its games, A starts one. Start opens the main menu (settings, controllers, network, shut down) and Select opens quick options like jumping to a letter or filtering favourites.

check_box

How do I quit a game or save my place?

Hold the hotkey (normally Select) and press another button:

  • Hotkey + Start — quit back to the game list
  • Hotkey + Y — save state: freeze exactly where you are, even mid-level
  • Hotkey + X — load state: pick that moment back up
  • Hotkey + right / left — fast-forward or rewind
  • Hotkey + L1 — screenshot

Normal in-game saving works too, exactly as it did on the original console.

check_box

Will my progress save?

Yes. Saves are written to PlayHer itself, so they travel with it to any computer. Just shut down properly from the menu rather than pulling the cable out — that is what protects them.

check_box

Can I add my own games?

Yes — it is your console. With PlayHer running and connected to your Wi-Fi, open the Network section of the file explorer on any other computer at home. A new device appears; open its share folder, then roms, and drop your files into the folder for that system (snes, psx, n64, gba and so on). Back on the console, press Start and choose Update Gamelists. Full instructions are in the guide that comes in the box.

check_box

How do I get box art for games I add?

Connect PlayHer to your Wi-Fi, then press Start and choose the Scraper. It downloads covers, screenshots and descriptions automatically. A couple of hundred games takes around ten to twenty minutes.

check_box

Do I need the internet to play?

No. Every game is already on the console. You only need Wi-Fi if you want to download artwork for games you add yourself.

check_box

My computer asked to format the drive. What do I do?

Always choose No or Cancel. Windows often asks this the first time it meets an unfamiliar drive. Formatting would erase all 100,000 preloaded games and cannot be undone — and it voids support, because the product no longer works as sold.

check_box

Will it change anything on my computer?

No. Nothing is installed and nothing is written to your internal drive. Everything runs from the console — unplug it and your computer is exactly as it was.

check_box

A game runs slowly. Is it faulty?

Almost certainly not. Older systems run smoothly on nearly any computer; the newest ones ask more of it. If one particular game struggles while the rest are fine, that is your computer's limit rather than a fault with the console.

check_box

How much is shipping, and how long does it take?

Shipping is free on every order, to every country. Priority Shipping is $9.99 at checkout and moves your order ahead of standard orders in our queue. Orders are processed in 1-3 business days and delivery is usually 8-20 business days.

check_box

What is your refund policy?

All sales are final. Because every console ships preloaded and tested, we do not offer refunds, returns, exchanges or cancellations once an order is placed. Please read the product description and check compatibility before you buy — and if you are unsure about anything at all, email us first and we will answer honestly.

check_box

What if it never arrives, or arrives broken?

You are covered. If your order does not arrive within the time frames in our Shipping Policy (45-50 days depending on country), we send a free replacement or issue a full refund. Every console is tested multiple times before it ships — if something is genuinely wrong on arrival, email support@myplayher.store with your order number and photos and we will sort it out.

check_box

It still won't start. What now?

Work through these in order: shut down fully rather than restarting; turn off Fast Startup and Secure Boot; try a different USB port directly on the computer rather than a hub or monitor; give it two full minutes on the first start. If none of that does it, email support@myplayher.store with your order number and a photo of the screen — a real person answers within 24 hours on business days.

Still stuck? Email support@myplayher.store and a real person will answer within 24 hours on business days. Every console ships with a printed setup guide covering all of this in detail.
